Components required for constructing Archatrak StreetDeck

The basic StreetDeck structure comprises a brushed stainless steel perimeter enclosing a deck surface of modular porcelain pavers. The perimeter is supported by galvanized steel brackets placed over adjustable height pedestals and bolted to the perimeter frame. The porcelain pavers likewise are supported by adjustable height pedestals which enable a perfectly level deck to be constructed  irrespective of the slope of the roadway or underlying surface.

¾” thick porcelain pavers are exclusively used for the deck surface due to their wide range of colors and styles (including wood, stone, cement and rustic styles), excellent wear resistance, stain resistance, low maintenance, ease of transportation, simplicity of installation and modularity. No bolts or other fixing devices are visible around the perimeter of the deck, giving the deck an exceptionally neat and clean looking finish.


The perimeter structure has just five main components:

Straight perimeter profile in 24″ to 72″ lengths – brushed stainless steel
Pre-formed corner profile – brushed stainless steel
Support brackets for the straight sides and for the corners – galvanized steel
Aluminum faced sandwich panel for the deck-to-ground perimeter covering

The straight perimeter profile is bolted to the corner profile which can be cut to permit decks of any size to be constructed.

Perimeter brackets are placed along the perimeter profile at 24″  intervals (width of one porcelain paver) and bolted to the stainless steel perimeter profile. Each perimeter bracket is supported by an adjustable height pedestal.

The corner perimeter profile is supplied as a complete unit pre-bolted to a support plate which is placed over three  adjustable height pedestal supports. Pedestal heads with spacer tabs removed (black) are screwed in position through the corner support plate and into the top surface of the pedestals, to prevent movement of the pedestals.

Where upright panels and railings are required along the perimeter, 24” long beams (purple) extending under the pavers are placed along the perimeter instead of the (orange) brackets, to provide structural supports for the panels/railings.

In circumstances where a stronger perimeter frame is required, beams can be extended from one side of the deck to the other, attached in the center of the deck to a central bracket.

Perimeter Fascia

The fascia around the perimeter is constructed of powder coated aluminum faced sandwich panels cut to size on site.  The plastic base of the outer pedestals is cut along the scored lines on the underside of the base enabling the panels to fit flush against the side of the pedestals. The panel is held in place with screws inserted through the perimeter brackets. The screw is fitted with a washer and nut that presses down on the panel, providing a degree of height tolerance in cutting the sandwich panel.

Perimeter Fence Panels

Perimeter fence panels and railings of various types can be securely attached to the perimeter profile with a steel bracket that slots in the gap between the deck pavers and bolts to both the perimeter profile and the extended perimeter support bracket.

Ramps and Transition Plates

To ensure safe access to the deck for pedestrians and wheelchairs, ramps and transition plates can be attached to the perimeter profile.  The transition plate is used as an interface between the deck and the pavement to provide smooth access for wheelchairs and to eliminate the potential for tripping on the deck edge.  The 24″ long plates are bolted to the perimeter profile and are perforated along the fold so they can easily be bent downwards to adjust for any height mismatch between the deck surface and the pavement.

Planters and side panels are fixed securely to the metal deck panels by special mounting brackets. This enables planters as narrow as 8″ wide to be placed around the perimeter of the deck, providing a strong walled structure to comply with requirements regarding resistance to horizontal force as well as maximizing the space on the deck for tables, benches and chairs.  Whilst these brackets are specifically designed for fixing our own range of planters to the metal base plates, they could also be used for securing other planters or accessories if required.

Pedestal Supports

Both the stainless steel perimeter profiles and the porcelain pavers are supported with adjustable height support pedestals which elevate the deck and enable a perfectly level surface to be created, irrespective of any slope or irregularity of the roadway or pavement. We supply Eterno ‘NM’ pedestal supports primarily due to their ease of installation and ability to make adjustments to the height of the deck after installation via a special tool inserted in the head of the pedestals. The pedestal heads feature a sound absorbing rubber layer and inbuilt spacer tabs which ensure accurate spacing of pavers across the deck.

For most installations, only the ETE-NM3 (2 ¼” – 3 7/8″ height range) or ETE-NM4 (3 ½” -6 ¼” height range) pedestals will be required, but pedestal heights up to 39” can be supplied by adding extension elements between the pedestal base and central column.

Deck Surface

3/4″ thick structural porcelain pavers, either 24″ x 24″ or 16″ x 48″, are exclusively used for the deck surface.   Archatrak supplies over 35 colors of 3/4″ thick porcelain pavers (see our porcelain color page here) in a wide range of styles including wood, stone, cement and rustic.  Spacer tabs built into the pedestal heads keep the pavers correctly spaced and perfectly aligned. Pavers can be cut to size to suit specific configurations as the perimeter profile can be adjusted to accommodate different dimensions.
